Pan Pan is the God of Shepherds, Animals (wild and domesticated), Protector of the Balance between Predator and Prey, Sexuality, Panic, Divination, Natural Healing, and Rustic Music. As the God of Animals He guards the balance of predator and prey, and teaches mortals to embrace their inner animal instincts. His sacred domain is Arcadia, though He was worshiped elsewhere both at Delphi and Athens. As the God of Divination, He taught Apollon the art of prophesy, and He is believed to come in dreams and promote healing. As the God of Rustic Music, the syrinx (also known as pan-pipes) is His sacred instrument. He is seen as a bearded man with the horns and feet of a goat. He dwells in forests, pastures, caves and mountaintops. As the God of Sexuality, He rules raw, instinctual passions, and is often seen chasing after nymphs and goat-herds. Pan's blessings are freedom, peace, self-knowledge, and protection. His curse is panic and blind fear, like the stampeding herds fleeing from their natural predators, which He is said to inflict on armies during war-time, and to those who disturb His noon-time slumber. |
Upon the Altar

Great Pan, God who is bears the image of animal and
mankind,
You who teach us how to be free and at peace;
You who
are the God of rustic music,
and the player of the Syrinx.
May
You hear the prayers of Your worshipers, and teach us
All to be
grateful and comfortable with who we are.
-Timotheos
Pan, Pan
Half goat half Man
Whole joy, Part fear
bring wine this year
play music in my ear
Panpipes to bring tears
drunken nights lasting years
