Apollon Apollon is the God of Music, Art, Enlightenment, Prophesy, Purification and Healing in Hellenismos. His ancient image is a handsome youth carrying a lyre, His musical instrument. He wears a crown of laurel (bay leaves) upon His head in honor of His love of Daphne, and is surrounded by golden light. As the God of Healing, prayers are given to Him to grant mental, physical, and spiritual health. His sacred animals include the crow, swan and python. The last of which He slew to claim His oracle at Delphi, where His priestesses, the Pythioi uttered His prophesies while filled with His divine essence. He is the God of Purification, and each year on His birthday celebration, the city was cleansed of all impurities in order to ensure a good harvest, and a prosperous season. As the Light-Bringer, He is associated with solar light, with which He brings cleansing and healing rays. He had more groves dedicated to Him than any other God in ancient times, and in His modern groves, much time is spent in quiet, calming meditation. He is the son of Zeus and Leto, and the brother of Artemis. |
