About the Temple

Purpose

The Hellenic Temple of Apollon, Zeus and Pan (HTAZP), as the name indicates is a modern worship space dedicated to Apollon, Zeus and Pan.

As a temple, HTAZP is:

Worship

In the context of HTAZP rituals and worship, Apollon, Zeus and Pan are honored in the following aspects:

Zeus: King of the Greek Pantheon, God of Storms, God of Purification, God of Wisdom, God of Strength, Freedom and Justice.

Apollon: God of the Arts, God of Prophesy, God of Light (as in spiritual enlightenment), God of Healing, Brother of Artemis, and God of Purification.

Pan: God of Shepherds, God of Solitude, God of Sexuality, God of Rustic Music, Goat-Footed God, God of Freedom from Fear, and God of Panic.

HTAZP recognizes and embraces other aspects of these Gods, as well as gives honor to the Dead and to the Agathos Daimon (Good Spirit). The temple also has a shrine to all of the Gods and Goddesses of Hellas, where other Deities are given worship.

This temple's worship services are performed in the context of Hellenismos (also known as Greek Reconstructionism). This means that all of the rituals, and festivals performed here are based on the religious practices of the ancient Greeks. At HTAZP, there is an emphasis on historical accuracy but also acknowledgment of the Gods as dynamic and changing beings. HTAZP’s religious services reflect both of these aspects. As such, rituals at HTAZP follow a modified version of thusia (animal sacrifice-in this case without a living animal). The rituals are performed to commune with the Gods, and to honor Them with xenia (hospitality), kharis (thankfulness), eusbeia (piety), and nomos (tradition). The temple also respects personal piety—that people’s personal worship and relationship is between themselves and the Gods.
